Question:
How to Perform Ghusl After Period?

Answer:
All praise is to Allah and be His blessings upon the Prophet:
In Islam, it is very important to be pure all the time, because a believer has to offer prayers 5 times a day, and the purity are of two types:

Types of Taharah

  1. Taharah Kubra means bath.
  2. Taharah Sughra means ablution.

The Taharah Sughra breaks with farting, urine, poop etc and it is necessary to offer prayers, but taharah kubrah doesn’t break easily except due to intercourse or menses.

Taharah Kubra can be retained through ghusl if it gets break wth the intercourse or wet dream; but the case is different with menses.

The time period of menses is considered as a impure period which lifts the obligation of prayers from the women and from other prayers as well.

Once the period gets over a woman has to take a Ghusl (bathing).

How to Perform Ghusl after Period

Quran states that:

And they ask you about menstruation: say, “It is harmful, so stay away from women during menstruation. And do not approach them until they have become pure. Once they have become pure, approach them in the manner Allah has directed you.” Allah loves the repentant, and He loves those who keep clean.”

[Baqarah 222]

Also hadeeth says:

‘A’isha رضي الله عنھا reported:

When Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) bathed because of sexual intercourse, he first washed his hands: he then poured water with his right hand on his left hand and washed his private parts. He then performed ablution as is done for prayer’. He then took some water and put his fingers and moved them through the roots of his hair. And when he found that these had been properly mois- tened, then poured three handfuls on his head and then poured water over his body and subsequently washed his feet. [Muslim]

Quran talks about the general bathing and hadeeth talks about the bathing with Wudhu; both of the methods are correct.

The only thing which is necessary with bathing is intention Niyah to get the taharah kubrah from that ghusl.

Allah knows the best.
