Abu Jahl, real name Amr ibn Hisham al-Makhzumi, formerly nicknamed Abu al-Hakam then Abu Jahl ("Father of Ignorance") by the Prophet. Chief of Banu Makhzum and one of the fiercest opponents of the preaching. Played a major role in persecutions and the boycott of Banu Hashim. Killed at the battle of Badr in 624 (2 H).
